چکیده
Through a qualitative content analysis of newspaper articles that have appeared in the New York Times over the last one hundred and fifty years (1855-2005), this study recounts historical trends in the coverage of absence by politicians. By focusing on this occupational group, the study demonstrates the special social expectations that politicians are subject to concerning attendance, the importance of considering context when studying absence from work, and the fact that absenteeism can lead to substantive political and legislative outcomes.
